Dangerous Weather System

.....is approaching our area and could produce severe weather overnight tonight (especially as we head toward daybreak). The one silver lining in all of this is the temperatures. We'll see highs today SCARE the 70° mark.

Our record high here in Cookeville for February 5th is 70° from 1962.

This date in Weather History for our area....
On February 5, 1996...Temperature at Sparta drops to -20, setting an all-time record low. Crossville's low of -16 sets a record low for February. We saw -13 here in Cookeville.

You know, I've always seen that -20 temperature in the record books and been unable to remember it. As I was interested in the weather then as I am now, you'd think I would remember it getting to twenty below zero, but I have no recollections of any temperature below about five below in my lifetime.
