Big Winds Blow Through Cookeville

Around 5:30 pm this afternoon winds blew through the Cookeville/Algood area causing all sorts of havoc. A nasty dust storm was stirred up in Algood at a large construction site.

In Cookeville, there are many reports of power outages, tree damage including one down on Broad Street near Belle Acres Golf Course. There are limbs littering streets including the historic area on Washington Avenue.  Trees down reported from Reeser Lane and in the Pippin community. More trees reported down on Benton Young Road.

Power outage reports are coming in from all over the city and in Algood as utility lines are reported down in several locations.

Unfortunately, no rain in the northeast quadrant of Cookeville. Heard of a pretty good shower north of town in the Algood area as well as west in Monterey and to our south in Sparta. Heavy rains also reported out in the Poplar Grove area.

A look at wind gusts by weather station:
Mine (Northeast Cookeville) 42 mph
Stem Center 32 mph
Bob Lynn Road area 38 mph
Colonial Meadows 26.6 mph
Bakers Crossroads near Sparta 31 mph
Paul Golden Road area near Sparta 52.6 mph (1.64" of rain)

Oh, and we hit 100° today in Cookeville. Another record high!
