Winter Weather Statement

Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 4:09 PM CST on December 14, 2010

....Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon Wednesday to 6 am
CST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for ice accumulations...which is in effect from noon
Wednesday to 6 am CST Thursday.

* Geographic area: Nashville... Clarksville... and Murfreesboro
metropolitan areas... and extending northward and eastward to
include most of the Highland Rim and Cumberland Plateau.

* Timing: light snow and freezing rain will begin across much of
the watch area on Wednesday morning...precipitation will
gradually switch over to sleet and freezing rain during the
afternoon and continue through the night... with light rain starting
mixing in late Wednesday night.

* Accumulations: only light snow accumulation expected. Total ice
accumulations from one tenth inch to one quarter inch are
expected over the advisory through Wednesday night. Largest ice
accumulations should occur in the most northern counties.

* Impacts: ice accumulations of these amounts will create havoc on
roadways and add tremendous weight to trees and power lines...
with the possibility of power and telephone outages.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while
driving.
