BIG Changes Are Coming!

***10:35 PM UPDATE***
Thinking is still the same.  Believe we will see rain increasing overnight.  Don't think we see a changeover to snow until daylight..somewhere in the 8-9 a.m. range..that could vary by a hour either way.  We will see moderate to heavy snow fall for a bit before ending.  Possible accumulations here in Cookeville of between 1-2 inches.  Depending on how fast temperatures fall, roads could become hazardous quickly.  You have every link you'll need at the top of this page.  There is a problem with the EMA weather page along with the Cookeville Web Cam, but we'll leave those links on the page.  NWS is continuing with the Winter Weather Advisory along with a Flood Advisory. More detail is available at the 'Forecast Page'
-----------------------------------------------------------

Let's look at the complete weather picture for Middle TN.

At 4:30 pm,
Temperatures are in the mid 40's here in Cookeville
Nashville is in 30's
Chattanooga is near 70°
Knoxville is in the mid 40's.
Crossville is in the 50's.

Got an update from a friend in Tulsa, Oklahoma...
"As far as the weather here... bring a shovel if you're coming in this direction... We have 2 - 3 inches of sleet on top of about 1/2 inch of ice. Sleet is still falling now with our temp topping out today at a balmy 20, with a WNW wind at 10mph... It looks like a winter wonderland...and very slick outside! Low tonight at 12...will be quite slippery I'd imagine most of the day tomorrow!"

The latest thinking on our weather is for rain to continue tonight.  The change to snow isn't expected until after daybreak tomorrow here in Cookeville.  Areas to our west will be the first, obviously, to change.

Accumulations are expected in the 1"-2" with more to our west. Temperatures will fall all day tomorrow.  Don't ask me about school. Just can't make a call based on 'what-ifs'.

Very cold Wednesday night with more snow chances on Thursday night and Friday.

I'll be back later with more.

What would be your best guess as for what time the snow would hit us (Cookeville)?

If I'm a guessing man...I'd say between 9 and 10 am.

Ok so do you think they'll call off school in the morning, or will they make the kids go to school and then possibly release them early.

Susan:

The call is usually made by 6 a.m. so that people don't have to get their kids out, run buses, etc. However, if they do go, the system will monitor conditions by the minute and make a determination based upon the safety of the students, faculty, and bus drivers.

Could release early..depends on a lot of things though.
