Like Living in Seattle But Changes Are Ahead

Tired of the rain? I've got bad news for you!

Looks like this first round will wrap up this morning, but a second round will be on their way later this afternoon. Thundershowers will only be very isolated in our area with highs just in the mid 70's (about 15°-20° below normal).

COOKEVILLE BY THE NUMBERS:

  • 1.70" of rain recorded in last 24 hours (almost a record breaker for this date)
  • Friday's high was just 68.8° which breaks a record from 2009 for the coolest high temperature recorded in Cookeville, TN on that date by 3°.
  • 53° was the coldest low temp on record, by the way, on Thursday morning!

SUNDAY AND THE WEEK AHEAD:
Sunday's forecast calls for a slight chance of a thunderstorm with a high of 83°. The week ahead promises a more summer type pattern with slight afternoon thunderstorm chances and highs in the upper 80's.

The end of next and the weekend just might be sunny, warm, and include no rain!

WEATHER LINK OF THE DAY:
Today's link includes an interesting graphics page from the National Weather Service in Nashville. More information than you can digest!

Can You Believe It Is July?

Chilly tonight folks. Hard to believe it is July 16th. Just for fun a 1950's thermometer.

JUST HOW CHILLY?
Record low for the overnight is 50° in 1945.
Historically the second to third week of July is one of our hotter weeks of the summer.

THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE FRIDAY THRU NEXT WEEK
Don't get used to the cool weather. We'll heat right up again to the mid 80's by Sunday with upper 80's Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  There will be thunderstorm chances starting on Friday afternoon all the way through Wednesday. The full forecast link is below.

A few links tonight:

Do you think we've been wet, dry, or about normal. The result may just surprise you.

Here is the 3 month outlook for August through October. If you're looking for an early autumn then you'll be unhappy about the outlook!

Back to Reality (Chilly Sunday)

For nearly a month, we've been spoiled by a warm pattern of temperatures. In fact, the last time our high was only in the 30's occurred on February 10th. Today, 30's return for highs across the Cookeville, as cold air is firmly in place for the next 24 hours.

WARM-UP IMMINENT:
Thankfully, the cold air gives way to sunshine and warmer temperatures on Monday as we'll reach the middle 50's. The nicest day will likely be on Tuesday with a high of 62°. Thunderstorms reappear on Wednesday and we'll watch for possible severe storms as well.

DID YOU SEE IT????

  • Some snow flurries were reported across the Highlands of Tennessee, especially on the Cumberland Plateau around Jamestown and Crossville. Snow in March is rare, but does happen from time to time.
RAINFALL MEASUREMENT:
  • On Saturday, we recorded 1.99" of rainfall ending at midnight. For the two-day period, including today, our total was 2.24". For the year, we stand at 12.06". Since February 24th, we have recorded 7.64" (that is just a ten-day period!)...
JOIN ME AT TRINITY ASSEMBLY:
  • My family are members at Trinity Assembly in Algood, TN and if you don't have a church home, not sure what you think about church, or are looking for something new, join us at Trinity either in-person or via the internet at: http://www.trinityalgood.com ...our church services are LIVE on Sundays at both 8:30 am and 10:30 am central time.

Finally, when severe weather is possible, a great page to navigate to is the SEVERE WEATHER SUMMARY PAGE at the NWS-Nashville website.
