Kansas Man Struck By Lightning After Buying Lottery Tickets

From the 'you cannot make this stuff up department' comes the story of a Mega Millions lottery player who bought three tickets on Thursday and then remarked to a friend 'I've got a better chance of getting struck by lightning' than winning the lottery.

He was right!

See the rest of the story here.

Special thanks to my father in-law for sending me this story.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Details below....Putnam is on the northeast edge of the watch area.

InteractiveNWS - Alert Information

Nice Saturday, Super Sunday

Expect a nice Saturday with highs in the middle to upper 70's this afternoon. There is a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm early but that chance will disappear as we get into the afternoon hours. Patchy fog tonight, low 52°.

We're having a family yard sale this morning and people began showing up around 6:30 am (even though we don't start until 7 am). I know we'll enjoy the cash we make off the sale, but it isn't much fun getting ready for it.

Fantastic on Sunday with sunny skies and a high of 82°. Thunderstorm chances return Monday through much of next week. Highs in 80's Monday moderating to the 70's by mid-week.

Rain stays in the forecast for Friday night and Saturday with a low of 57° and a high Saturday of 75°. Sunshine with highs in the lower 80's on Sunday. The 7-day shows rain returning on Monday and temperatures sliding downward by middle of next week.

A slight chance for rain and thunderstorms later today. Expect warm temperatures with a high near 80° this afternoon. The slight chance for showers and thunderstorms continues tonight. We are looking at a slight chance for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The most likely scenario if severe storms develop are damaging winds and large hail. The area with the best chance to be affected is from Lafayette to Crossville.

*Hazardous Weather Outlook*

Thursday will be sunny and warm with a high of 76°. Hard to believe that our norms this time of year are 63° and 38°. It's been a warm March with the average high of 70.5° and an average low of 42.7°. Overall temperature has averaged 56.6° for March and that is 10° above normal. The record is 60.4° set back in 1921.

Nice Tuesday

Chilly mid 40's by Tuesday morning but the warm up will come quickly as highs hit the middle 70's by the afternoon.

We're still trending toward the warmest March ever. Don't get it in your mind this portends an abnormally hot summer. I will give you updates on the outlook (30, 60, 90 days) as I receive them.

The rest of this week does offer a shower chance late Wednesday through Friday. Keep the umbrella handy those days.

Gorgeous Week Ahead

Read all of this post. Some great facts below.

Expect three nice days to start out the work week. Monday will be sunny with highs in the lower to mid 70's. We'll tweak the forecasted high up a couple of degrees from that for Tuesday and even a couple more degrees on Wednesday with an increasing chance of an isolated thunderstorm.

Night time lows will be near 50° tonight rising to the mid and upper 50's by mid-week.

SUNDAY NIGHT MEDIA STORY:

A:  We are 12° above normal compared to a normal March

Hail Friday Night - Rain Saturday - Sun Sunday

There were quite a few reports of hail on Friday night across the Cookeville and Putnam County area. Most of the hail was in the pea-sized to dime-sized range.

We're looking at chances for rain and thundershowers today with cooler temperatures. Highs expected only in the lower to middle 60's. That will feel quite chilly compared to the last 2 weeks.

Sunday's weather will be sunny and I do expect the sunshine to last through the mid part of next week. Temperatures will be warmer with highs in the 70's.

Another Day In The 80's

Wednesday will be the 7th day in the last 8 in which we've topped 80°. It should be mostly sunny today with winds gusting as high as 20 mph. Overnight, partly cloudy with a low of 60°.

For Thursday, we'll see a chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Those thunderstorms become more likely on Thursday night. Our 80°+ string will likely end. That being said, temperatures remain above average through the 7-day forecast. The 'coolest' projected high is near 70° and that occurs on Sunday.

You have to go back to mid-September to find the last time we were this warm for this many days.

Did you know the average high and low for this date (March 21) is 61° and 36°?

Expect another warm day on Wednesday with highs in the 80's and then we see thunderstorms developing for the rest of the week. Highs will drop just a bit into the 70's for the rest of the week.

Lightning Show Winding Down

We should see things settle down after midnight with only a random shower in the area. Be careful in the morning as they may be quite a bit of fog in the Upper Cumberland. It was quite the lightning show tonight for much of middle Tennessee.

Sunday's forecast calls for a slight chance of rain in the early morning hours. We'll have a sunny day and warm temperatures with a high of 80°. Monday will be even better with a high of 82°. Ditto that for Tuesday and slight storm chances return on Wednesday with a high of 76°

Thunder Boomer Chances Next 3 Days

Rain chances increase today with the best chance for strong to severe thunderstorms confined to the northwest section of middle TN. That area includes Nashville's metro area. Scattered thunderstorms are expected today and tonight. Some could get strong and include large hail with damaging straight-line winds.

Here in Cookeville, thunderstorms possible although I don't think we reach the severe limit today or tonight. Expect the high to reach 80° again today. Scattered thunderstorms tonight, low 59° and thunderstorms likely again on Friday, high of 76°.

Rain and thunderstorm chances stick with us Saturday, although chances do decrease slightly. It will continue to be warm with a high around 80°.

Sunny skies on Sunday and Monday with highs in the 80's.
