Warmer Days

COLD RUN OVER FOR NOW: Teens this morning across the area, but I have good news! Sunny skies and 44° today across Cookeville, TN. We've not been that warm since last year (December 31, 2009). Much of the snow will melt today and we will probably see most, if not all, of school systems back in session on Thursday. We do start with a SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT through 9 o'clock this morning for freezing fog in some locations. That could make bridges and overpasses slippery. The forecast (below) looks nice through Friday night with highs moderating into the 50's on Thursday and Friday. Expect rain this weekend with cooler temperatures. The National Weather Service is calling the warm up a Major Pattern Change. The map above shows just how quiet Tennessee is right and the influencing weather factors will come from the south for a while as opposed to the very cold north.

Snow Storm Later This Week?

BRRRRRRRRRR: Downright cold to start your Sunday morning. Temperatures dropped to the single digits in some locations (like Crossville with 8°). Today's highs will struggle to reach the 20's once again. Yesterday's high here in Cookeville was just 22°. We dropped to 10° this morning just after sunrise. For tonight, expect lows to be even colder...around 5-8° here in Cookeville. Think it is cold here, how about going to the Great Smoky Mountains where it is: -5 Newfound Gap, 6 inches of snow and -5 atop Mt. LeConte, 13 inches of snow

SNOW STORM POSSIBILITIES: We're watching the potential of an accumulating snow event later this week. Forecasting models are beginning to get their act together in regards to the potential of this storm. While I don't go out on the limb to predict amounts, etc. I can tell you there is a good chance of accumulations in the 2-5" range should this pan out. Snow Possible Today

**SNOW POLL IS POSTED ABOVE....PLEASE VOTE!**

SUNDAY SNOW POSSIBLE - A strong low-pressure system situated over Iowa promises to spin some clouds and possible moisture down into Middle Tennessee on Sunday. We should start out the morning with sunshine and chilly temperatures. Expect to be around 30° in the early morning rising to the lower 40's by the afternoon. Clouds will move in after lunch here in Cookeville and possibly earlier the farther west you go toward Nashville. As the clouds thicken, expect snow flurries to develop. Not expecting any accumulation although if we do see any, it will be toward the east in the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau.

COLD WEEK AHEAD - The upcoming work week between Christmas and New Year's Day is expected to be cold with temperatures averaging several degrees below normal and a BIG SHOT of cold air coming by week's end. We will see some of the coldest air of the young winter season. As I always say, though, this system is several days away and can change, so we will keep an eye on it and keep you informed! Several things to go over. Tonight's forecast has been changed. The Freezing Fog has been removed and replaced with a chance for flurries (albeit, slight at 20%). Cold with a low in the upper 20's. The next thing is you have a chance (IF YOU HURRY) to win ADOBE'S Lightroom 2 or ADOBE's Photoshop Elements. Both are fantastic pieces of software. Lightroom is being given away by MckMama at her web site while Grammie is giving away Photoshop. ****Too Cool***** Check out their web sites to enter. SUNDAY'S FORECAST: A mostly cloudy day for the Cookeville area with a high of 38°. Beautiful snow all around this morning with temps hovering in the lower 30's. For the most part, roads were fine overnight. Watch out this evening for FREEZING FOG (shown at left) as low-level moisture remains high and temps will drop below freezing under a clear sky.
