Rain Continues With A Snow Mix Possible Late

Rain will continue (mainly light) the rest of the afternoon hours into tonight.

During the overnight hours we'll see some snow mix in with the rain but no accumulations are expected. For Saturday, snow is likely before 9 am with a CHANCE of some light accumulations generally in the one-half inch or less range. Cloudy with eventual clearing and VERY, VERY COLD for Saturday night with a low of around 20°.

Sunny on Sunday with a high of 38°.

Next rain chances come late on New Year's Eve and extend into New Year's Day. We'll continue to be cold with warmest temps in the middle 40's during the day and 20's at night.

Big Weather Changes for New Year

NICE 2 DAYS AHEAD:
Gorgeous Friday with a slight chance of rain, high in the upper 50's today across the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee. We do have a slight chance (only about 20%) for a shower. Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 36° by sunrise on Saturday.

WEEKEND FORECAST:
Saturday is expected to be the best day as we'll see sunny skies and warm temperatures with light winds. The high will be around 57°. Rain returns for Saturday night (New Year's Eve) and New Year's Day on Sunday. The low will be 43° with the high of 49°. Rain chances right now look to be slight, but that could change to a better chance.

HERE COMES THE COLD:
Temperatures will plunge New Year's night as an Arctic cold front ushers in the coldest air this season. Expect 26° by Monday morning and highs will only creep up to 35° with a low on Monday night of 18°.

SCHOOL START FORECAST:
Schools start back across the Highlands of Tennessee on Tuesday and you'll want to bundle up your kids as 7 am temps will be in the higher teens. The high Tuesday is only expected to reach 35°.

New Year's Day Update

More than 2" of rainfall has been recorded since we began 2011. January typically averages 5.11", so we're off to a great start. The rainfall should wind down this afternoon but we will have a dreary winter-like day. Great for watching football indoors!

Expect temperatures to continue falling throughout the day. At 12:35 pm, it is 44.2° down from 57.8° at 8 o'clock this morning.

Heavy Rain Overnight (More On The Way)

2011 arrives with a bang weather wise. Strong showers and possibly a thunderstorm through daybreak with a low of only about 55°. Heavy rains can be expected with winds gusting up to 35 mph. 100% chance of precipitation.

For Saturday, expect temperatures to fall through the day with rain, heavy at times, especially in the morning. Look for us to fall through the 40's in the afternoon with gusty north northwest winds to 30 mph. The rest of the cool forecast is below at the link.

New Year's Eve Forecast

WET AND CHILLY: Your New Year's Eve forecast includes a little something for everyone. We'll reach a high of near 50° today before a cold front sweeps through and begins to drop our temperatures. Sprinkles this morning give way to a mostly cloudy sky this afternoon and tonight. You may see an occasional flurry of snow tonight if you're out and about. Lows by sunrise will be in the 20's. A slight chance of snow for New Year's Day and high of only 30°. The 7-day forecast below shows temperatures not getting above 30° from Saturday through Wednesday! Please check your hose connections on your home and make sure pets have proper amounts and food/water each day.

Rainy Day!

It's Friday! I've been off work since Thursday afternoon before Christmas. Been the fastest 7 days of my life. I go back on Monday, December 31st for a day before getting Tuesday off.

Rain is falling now over much of Middle Tennessee. Showers are racing to the northeast at 55 mph. The forecast calls for a 100% chance of rain (makes sense since it is raining right now!) today and 50% tonight. We continue to watch a developing winter weather situation for just after the first of the year. While it is definitely going to be much colder, we are holding off on the precipitation for right now. I hope to have a much clearer picture for everyone by tonight.

There are hail pictures from Decaturville, TN over at News 2's Weather Site. Some in the Middle TN area are reporting a lot of lightning..none here in the Cookeville area.

Day After Christmas Weather

It certainly won't feel like December 26th today. Highs are expected to be in the middle 50's under sunny skies for the Cumberland Plateau region of Middle TN. Our morning started around 30 for most and in the upper 20's for others.
