Brand New Feature: I'm thrilled to announce a great, new feature. Worked on several things last night related to this web site. The biggest announcement out of it is a brand-new feature involving one of the Cookeville web cams from the CPCEMA (Cookeville-Putnam County Emergency Management Agency). If you look at 'My Weather Station Live', you'll notice a camera shot. This is being taken from the top of 'CPAC', the Cookeville Performing Arts Center located in downtown across from the Federal Courthouse and old Post Office. You can now view a time-lapsed 24 hour video of Cookeville by going to the camera page. I'll post one from today below!

Memphis Snow
You can see it snowing in Memphis by going to the TDOT Website. The above picture is a camera that is at Mile Marker 20 on I-40 heading OUT of Memphis. The bridge over the Mississippi River heading into Arkansas is snow covered and hazardous at this hour.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compare that shot to this one of my hometown of Cookeville about 4 hours down Interstate 40!!

Power Outages in Cookeville, Tennessee
**UPDATE @ 9:25 AM**
Band of moderate snow falling in Cookeville.
Noticed both Fentress and Pickett County schools have shut down.
Thank goodness it is 15°...a powdery snow.
**Update**
Power has gone off three times this morning in Cookeville.
8:48 am
8:32 am
7:55 am
Cycles back on in just about 60 seconds or so.
When it is 14°, a power outage REALLY gets your attention.

Weekend Outlook
Interesting weekend here in Middle Tennessee.
This morning, I went and helped setup tables in one of our church parking lots for the Speed The Light Missions Yard Sale. The Yard Sale was open to anyone who desired to sell their unwanted items. We had quite a few sellers and by 7:00 am, we had quite a few buyers!
Looking at our weekend weather, today is just going to be AWESOME. Bright, warm sunshine with a light NNE wind. Highs will reach the middle 70's...*latest, local forecast*
We are watching, with great interest, a possible severe situation developing for us later tonight and into early Sunday morning.
This is an excellent time to review basic Lightning Safety Tips from our friends at NOAA.
98% of people killing by lightning were killed outside

30% were 20-25

We had some exciting weather last evening. Very isolated storms dumped hail on one community.

Things Have Changed
Check out the picture in the post below this one. At 9 a.m., we were CLEAR...now, just past 2:18 pm, it's raining across most of Cookeville under a cloudy sky. The backside (or wraparound) moisture from the cold front that went through overnight is now here. This rainfall is confined mainly to the northern half of Middle Tennessee and is moving rapidly.*Latest, local forecast*
This latest radar snapshot shows most of the heavier rainfall has moved east of my location (indicated by the + sign in the center of the page).
Temperatures have dropped by 6° since the high of 65° around 12:30.

Happy New Year 2008
A wonderful happy new year to all of you!
Let's get right to our weather. Currently (at 10 a.m. CST), it is sunny, windy, and cold. Temperatures are hovering in the middle 30's and are expected to fall the rest of the day. We also expect clouds to move and produce up to a dusting of snow.

Nashville Air Quality Alert
An Air Quality Index Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Nashville, TN for Wednesday.
Also, from the NWS, back on this date in 1916, Nashville records 2.58" of rain. Now that would be nice! :-)
Our forecast up here on the Plateau doesn't include an air quality alert, however we will still have widespread haze.
