Nice Start With A Warm Day Ahead

We began the morning at 59° and expect temperatures to warm up quickly after the sun rises. We'll top out at 87° this afternoon under a sunny sky. Winds are expected to be mainly calm.

Tonight, increasing clouds and a low around 69° and we'll see a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. For Friday, showers and thunderstorms are likely with a high in the lower 80's. Rain chances continue Friday night, but the weekend is expected to be quite nice with highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's under sunny skies.

Much of next week will be cool and clear with warm, sunny days and very comfortable evenings.

Football Forecast:
The Cookeville High School 9th grade team takes on Pope John Paul II (JP2) tonight. JP 2 is coached by former longtime and very successful Cookeville coach Jerry Joslin. Kickoff is slated for 6 pm and I expect a temperature of 84° and light SSW wind at 2 mph. There is a very slight rain chance.

Big Forecast Changes

SNOW CHANCES:
A developing storm system is set to bring a significant amount of rainfall over much of Tennessee for Sunday and Monday. We are looking at between 2 and 3" of precipitation during those two days. Behind the rainmaker is a good chance for OUR FIRST SNOW of the season on Monday night and lingering into Tuesday and Tuesday night.

TODAY:
It's playoff Saturday in Cookeville, TN and the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles host Central Arkansas this afternoon at 2 pm in Tucker Stadium on the campus of TTU. Expect windy, warm conditions today as our high temperature is expected to reach 66 degrees by kickoff.

Back Into The Deep Freeze

Sunny and quite cool over all of the Upper Cumberland today with highs only reaching into the middle to upper 40's this afternoon. Here in Cookeville, we'll call it 48° for the high. Don't forget to take a warm jacket today!

Tonight, clear...cold...no, very cold....low 24° by sunrise on Friday.

Friday...Sunshine and a high of 52°....chilly again on Friday night...low 33°

Saturday....Beautiful sunshine...high 59°

Next rain chances return on Sunday.

Remember that on Saturday, Tennessee Tech University hosts Austin Peay in football. With a victory, Tech will be the Ohio Valley Conference football champions for the first time since 1975. Make plans now to attend...get to the tailgate park early...TTU is expecting a huge crowd since this is the most important game in 36 years for Tech football. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at 931-372-3940.

Sunny Skies with 30's This Weekend

PERFECT TODAY WITH HINT OF BIG CHANGES:
Expect sunny skies as far as we can see (up through next Wednesday) with a high today of 79°. We start this morning in the middle 50's around Cookeville, Tennessee. Hints of the change in weather show-up this evening very late and on Friday. More on that below.

BIG CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE:
After today's late summer-like day, a change in our weather will turn us back into the middle of Autumn. Just to our west is a strong frontal boundary that will bring in the coolest weather yet this season. In fact, Sunday and Monday mornings will be downright cold! We'll dip into the 30's on both mornings. Friday's high will be 67°, but a pretty strong WNW wind will run 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts. Thankfully, it will be sunny! Saturday morning's low temps will be in the low 40's and I don't think we climb out of the 50's on Saturday afternoon.

Cookeville High School takes on Crossville this Friday night. If you're headed up to Cumberland County on Friday, take a jacket...you'll need it as temperatures back off quickly after sunset.

WARM-UP SUNDAY THROUGH NEXT WEEK:
After a very cold morning Sunday (expect 30's), we'll rebound to around 65° during the daytime and go right back into the 30's overnight Sunday into Monday with a high Monday of 71° and still warmer afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday.

FYI, last time in 30's was way back on May 5th...almost 5 months ago. 


Looks like we'll end September with 7.91"...it was our rainiest month since June and the 4th most this year. 2011 is running WAY AHEAD of normal as we're near our average annual total for precipitation and still have 3 months (more than 90 days) left in 2011. 

Sun-filled Weekend

HOPE YOU LIKE SUNSHINE!
Cool overnight going into Friday with lows by daybreak around 52°. A nice day Friday as we climb to 71° (the high Thursday was 78°). Friday night is expected to mostly clear for the high school football games. A very comfortable night as temps drop into the 60's for most everyone during the evening hours. Expect 46° by sunrise on Saturday. Perfect for a morning walk, job, or bike ride.

COOL-DOWN SHOT EXPECTED:
For Saturday, expect highs right around 72°...another shot of cooler air is on tap for us here in the Highlands of Tennessee on Saturday night as lows are expected down to 45° by Sunday morning with highs that afternoon of 66°. Another cold night on Sunday into Monday morning where we'll see lows around 40°.

Rain Returning For Weekend

NICE THURSDAY ON TAP:

Expect a decent day ahead with highs near 80° in Cookeville. Skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day. A slight chance of rain overnight with a low of 61°. Friday's weather will be mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. The high will be in the mid 80's. Storm chances remain for Friday night and increase on Saturday with lows in the mid 60's and highs in the mid 80's. Sunshine returns for Sunday.

ANNUAL CAPSHAW COUGAR RUN:

The fundraiser for the Cookeville school is this Friday morning. It is a local tradition. The forecast for the event is for cloudy skies and temperatures rising from around 70° to 75° by the time the run is complete.

FALL FUN FEST:

The annual Fall Fun Fest takes place this weekend in Cookeville. It features some of the best BBQ teams in the country competing for awards. There is also a street fair, concerts, and a lot of fun for kids! The forecast is a bit of challenge for Friday night and Saturday as Fun Fest goers may be dodging some rain, especially on Saturday!

CAVALIERS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:

Friday night at 7 pm, our Cookeville High School Cavaliers take on Lebanon here in Cookeville. There is a slight chance (about 33%) for rain with a game time temperature of 80° falling back to 73° by the late fourth quarter. GO CAVS!

Arctic Blast Returns Sunday!

THE WEEKEND OUTLOOK
Big weather changes are in store for us. First, rain is in our forecast for today under cloudy skies with highs in the mid 50's.

Rain continues overnight as a front comes through with lows around 32°..Sunday's forecast is for falling temperatures, chance of snow flurries and strong winds.

By Sunday night, we'll be down to near 10° with wind chills below zero. Take precautions with outdoor pets, make sure your garden hoses are not attached to the faucet, etc.

TITAN FOOTBALL
Our Tennessee Titans host the Pittsburg Steelers.  We can clinch the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a victory.  GO TITANS! Fans will need to bundle up during the game as northwesterly winds will be blustery...around 15 mph for the entire game.  Slight chance of snow showers with temperatures falling through the 20's. Monday: Upper 20's under sunny skies.
Monday night: Bitter cold again, low 17°
Tuesday: Wintry Mix, high 39°
Tuesday Night: Sleet turns to rain, low 36°

Christmas Day: Cloudy, high 48°
Let's hope this forecast changes toward Christmas Day and has snow in the forecast!


DECEMBER RAINFALL
Finally, many of you have talked to me about how much rain has fallen. Here are the updated numbers (courtesy of my CoCoRaHS rain gauge)...6.66" of rain has fallen since December 1st and we've had measurable rainfall for 5 straight days. In the 19 days of December, we've had 12 days with rain recorded. Normal rainfall for the entire month of December is 5.73". A wet month indeed. Nashville's NWS has a Drought Information Statement.

Back Into The 30's Tonight (TTU Football Saturday)

Temperatures by sunrise on Saturday morning will be in the upper 30's for a number of us in eastern Middle Tennessee.  The warm days and cool nights are due to very dry air in place along with clear skies and cold, Canadian air filtering in to our region.  We were about six degrees warmer this afternoon than on Thursday.

The weekend promises a warm up for all of us in Middle Tennessee.  Upper 70's for highs on Saturday warming into the lower 80's on Sunday and again on Monday!  We'll finally see some rain along about Wednesday lasting into Friday.  Hopefully, this will be a good rainmaker.

Our Cookeville High School Cavalier football team took a drubbing from Memphis University School tonight.  The final was 42-0.  I know Coach J, his staff, and players will regroup for next week's game.  This is an excellent ball club and they'll bounce back and be ready to play.  MUS is one of the top private schools in the state and has an excellent chance to win a state title this year.

Our Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles face Eastern Kentucky tomorrow evening.  Kickoff is at 7 pm and the weather should be PERFECT for football.  Kickoff temperature should be around 72° with temperatures falling into the 60's during the game.  Tech is undefeated this year in the Ohio Valley Conference and 3-2 overall with the only two losses coming against Division 1 (or Bowl Championship Series) teams.  I encourage everyone in our area to go out and support Coach Watson Brown and the Golden Eagle football team.  Why drive over to Knoxville to watch UT when you can stay close to home and see better quality games!

Temperatures for tomorrow's game between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants promises to be a COLD one!! Kickoff temperature @ 5:30 pm is expected to be: 1° above zero with the mercury going under ZERO during the game. Wind chills could run -25 to -35. OH MY!

SAN DIEGO @ NEW ENGLAND
In the first game in Foxboro, MA between the undefeated Patriots and the San Diego Chargers...temperatures are much more tolerable...it'll be cold, but not terribly so....here is their forecast: A slight chance of snow showers with temperatures falling through the 20's. Strong west winds will make it feel MUCH colder.
