Frosty Night Ahead

Expect a chilly overnight with frost developing by 3 am and lasting until around 8 am. The coldest temperatures will be right around the freezing mark in the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau.

Be sure to cover any sensitive vegetation. This is a killing frost and some areas could see freezing temperatures for a time. These areas include the Highland Rim and the Cumberland Plateau.

FROST ADVISORY

After areas of morning frost, I expect we'll warm up nicely under sunny skies and will hit the upper 60's with some folks seeing 70° for the high. Rain returns Thursday night and into Friday although chances are slim for now. Highs Friday near 70° under a cloudy sky.

Saturday is expected to be partly sunny and nice with a high of 76°. Ditto that forecast for Sunday with a 30% chance of thunderstorms and a high of 76°.

TITAN FORECAST:
Showers hold off for the game with temps in the upper 60's for kickoff and dropping through the 60's during the game. Should be a fairly nice evening with calm winds. Let's go and whip those Steelers!

Slight Sunday Thunderstorms

RAIN?:
Only a very slight chance of storms today across middle Tennessee with a high of 80° here in Cookeville. Expect a few degrees warmer back to the west toward Nashville. Best chance for rain will be Nashville westward and even then it won't be a significant chance. Rain chances increase greatly tonight through Monday as most of us will see some thunderstorm activity.

WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK:
Don't forget...our winter weather outlook is now available and was published yesterday. The outlook will be update as more information is made available in October!

TITAN'S FORECAST:
Your Tennessee Titans host the Baltimore Ravens today at noon at LP Field in Nashville. I expect a kick-off temperature of 79-80° with only a very slight chance for rain during the game. Top temperature during the game is expected around 83° except at the end where I think it'll be hotter than a firecracker when our Titans dismantle those nasty Baltimore Ravens! If you cannot make it to the game, Channel 5 (WTVF) will carry it locally.

More Rain Coming

**GOOD SUNDAY MORNING**
The Christ Tabernacle Singers, from Brooklyn, New York will be our guests at Trinity Assembly in Algood, TN today. Make plans to join us for either the 8:30 or 10:30 service this morning. If you can't be there in person, check us out LIVE on the web. See you there....

**WHAT ELSE WOULD BE IN THE FORECAST**
Rain continues to be in our forecast today as another low tracks northward through Tennessee. There is an outside chance for a thunderstorm or two. Highs will be in the middle 70's for this Sunday.

**TITANS FORECAST**
If you're interested, here is the Tennessee Titans weather forecast, as well as a forecast for every team in the NFL for today.

**THE WEEK AHEAD**
The week ahead forecast has, YOU GUESSED IT, rain in it every single day. At one-time last week, I mentioned a BIG COOL DOWN coming, but it is, for now, not in the plans. Fall will arrive, but the temperatures will be a bit warm for this time of year.

Weather History for This Date

…1908: A devastating hurricane struck the Louisiana coast, coming ashore 50 miles west of New Orleans, near Houma around 8pm. The hurricane was as intense as the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 with a central pressure of 931 mb. 350 people were killed as a large section of the Louisiana coast was inundated. Storm surge reached 15 feet in the Timbalier Bay area.

…1974: As Hurricane Fifi tracked along the north coast of Honduras, the Category Two hurricane resulted in disastrous flooding that killed over 8,000 people. Up to twenty four inches of rain fell on the moitainous terrain causing incredible flooding an dlandslides. Choloma, Honduras was struck by a huge mudslide at dusk on this date. The mudslide formed a dam that trapped the raging flood waters. When the dam finally burst, the flood waters devastated the city. About 2,800 people or half the town’s population perished in the tragedy.

…1998: Hurricane Georges reached peak intensity as a strong category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph and a central pressure of 937 mb about 300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Georges would go onto kill over 600 people in the Caribbean, eventually making landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast in Mississippi.

…2005: Hurricane Rita intensified rapidly as it passed through the Florida Straits about 50 miles south of Key West. A storm surge of up to five feet affected the Keys, overwashing US-1 in some locations. It was the beginning of an astounding intensification that saw the storm deepen from a Category Two to a Category Five storm in twenty four hours. The central pressure in the storm would drop from 965 millibars to 897 millibars in twenty four hours.

Black Friday Weather

Black Friday is here and my bride and eldest daughter woke up at 3 a.m. to take advantage of sales at various retailers across our fine city!

They were greeted with cloudy, cool conditions.  Highs are expected to reach the middle 50's this afternoon.

*Latest, Local Forecast*

The rest of the holiday weekend shows showers moving in overnight tonight and continuing through the rest of the weekend.  There is a chance for these showers to turn to snow showers on Sunday night and Monday!  Our 2008 Cookeville Christmas parade is Monday evening at 7 pm.  Weather conditions will be cold with a chance of snow showers.  Temperatures will be mostly around 30°.  We'll update this forecast as we get a little closer.

How about those Titans pounding the Lions on Thanksgiving Day?  We saw #10 on the field late in the game.  With a Colt's loss this weekend, the Titans clinch their division.

Cold & Cloudy Sunday

It was a great day to stay inside and eat chili or veggie soup while watching our Tennessee Titans.  Conditions are cloudy across the Volunteer State and very chilly.  At 3:30 pm, temperatures in Middle Tennessee are fighting to reach the middle 40's.  We expect lows tonight to drop into the 20's by daybreak.  Monday promises some sunshine and highs in the mid 50's but the rest of the week is unsettled with good rain chances each day.

*Latest, Local Forecast*

Titans go to 9-0
Our Titans beat the Chicago Bears 21-14 despite their running attack being non-existent.  Quarterback Kerry Collins completed 30 of 41 passes for nearly 300 yards.  The Titans are still undefeated at 9-0 with the Jacksonville Jaguars coming up next week.

Cookeville Weather History...on this date in 1986, we measured 4.10" of rain.  Record high this date was 80° in 2005 and the record low was 18° in 1991.  In a typical year, our high would be 62° and low 37°...last year, we had a high of 57 and low of 32.

November 9, 2008 High & Low
Today, our high temperature was 45.1° (which occurred at midnight)...our afternoon high was just 44.2° which occurred at 11:30 am....this morning's low was 39.0° at 6:20 am.

Titans WIN!!

The Tennessee Titans ran their record to 8-0 this afternoon in Nashville as they defeated the Green Bay Packers 19-16 in overtime.  Rob Bironas, Titan's placekicker, made a 41 yard field goal to win the game.  Earlier, with 4 seconds in regulation, he his attempt struck the upright.  Bironas made field goals of  31, 25, 22, and 41 yards!  WAY TO GO ROB...redemption is fantastic.

The new version of 'Thunder and Lightning' with Lendale White and Chris Johnson worked well today as the tandem had 77 and 89 yards rushing respectively.   Johnson also led the team in receptions today with six catches for 72 yards.  The rookie, a first round pick from East Carolina, is playing extremely well.  Some fans questioned the Titans organization for picking him, however, I am sure those fans have eaten their words!

Kerry Collins was a respectable 18 for 37 for 180 yards and NO interceptions. The Titans took care of the ball.  Collins was sacked twice by the strong Packer defense.

Titan wide receiver Brandon Jones had several timely receptions for first downs.

Another fantastic day for our Tennessee Titans.  Clearly, they ARE the NFL's best team.

Snow Reported in Tennessee!

We have a few reports of snow this morning across the higher elevations of Middle Tennessee east of Nashville.  Quite amazing for the last week of October.  Should be getting a report from the Smoky Mountains later this morning.

Bundle up this morning as our forecast calls for another chilly day with highs in the mid 40's followed by another COLD night with frost and freeze warnings.

*Latest, Local Forecast*

The good news is we do expect a warm-up toward the weekend with highs in the upper 60's!

Way to go Titans!  Big victory on MNF over the Colts..31-21

Brisk, Cold Day

Temperatures across Tennessee are expected to be cold today with highs struggling (in our area) to reach 50°...combine that with a strong northwest wind gusting to 25 mph today and it will feel more like the upper 30's...bundle up...tonight, temperatures fall quickly and we are expecting a freeze overnight as well as Tuesday night.

Sunday Morning Frost!

Woke up this morning to temperatures in the mid 30's and plenty of frost. Some locations, near the lakes, are dealing with fog this morning.  I believe it is the big difference in air and water temperature causing that.

The good news is we will warm quickly into the mid and upper 60's today.

Our Tennessee Titans take on Kansas City today.  With a win, we go to 6-0!   Go Titans.

If you can't attend church this morning, watch it live via the web!  My church broadcasts at 8:30 am and 10:30 am CDT.

Get Ready For Some Cool Weather

(more on this in the post below)

Looking ahead to our workweek, I see some overnight lows in the 40's by midweek!  As Davis Nolan over at News 2 (Nashville) say in his post "Are You Ready For Some REAL Fall Weather ?"  40's will seem really COLD! :)

*Latest, Local Forecast *

The cold weather ahead will be courtesy of two cold fronts headed our way.  Typical highs and lows for this time of year are 78 and 51, so we'll be below normal later in the week.

Congratulations to our Tennessee Titans who beat the Minnesota Vikings today in Nashville at LP Field by the final of 30-17.  Looking like the Titans are the real deal.  Next up are the Baltimore Ravens and there is little love among these two squads.

Finally, got a chance this afternoon to see the movie "Fireproof " starring Kirk Cameron.  INCREDIBLE is a word I can use to describe it.  Early numbers show this movie in the TOP 5 in this weekend's box office receipts.  There are some nut job movie reviewers out there who are trashing it for all the wrong reasons.  If you're married or planning to marry one day, I'd encourage you to see it with your spouse.  I hope all of you will fireproof your marriage.  Our church will be conducting a six-week teaching series about fireproofing your marriage.  I'll post more about it later.

Storms Arriving Later

Looks like we'll have thunderstorms move in to our area from the Southwest today.

*Latest, local forecast*

Looking at radar from Memphis, most of the heavier rains are still in Mississippi. They will make their way northeastward. This morning, light rain is falling on the Southern Cumberland Plateau. Those probably won't affect us this morning.

Conditions across Tennessee.

Our latest, local radar image can be found by clicking here.

The 2nd day of the NFL Draft is today. Wonder who my Titans will select today? Oh, and great news...Adam 'Pacman' Jones is officially a Dallas Cowboy...good riddance!

Interesting Saturday..

It was quite a day today. We had early morning rains just before daybreak and then light rain in the late morning and early afternoon. By late afternoon, skies had cleared enough to see some peeks of sunshine!

In football news, my Tennessee Titans drafted a couple of players during the NFL Draft today. Neither player is from a school that gets you very excited (East Carolina and Eastern Michigan) but I know our front office and coaching staff know what they're doing. The first player we took was Chris Johnson, a running back, in the first round at #24. Great interview with Johnson here. The player Tennessee took in round two was Jason Jones, an athletic defensive lineman from Eastern Michigan. Really thought we'd be able to get Limas Sweed from Texas, but those Steeler clowns picked him just ahead of us. His interview is here.

Back to the weather...Our latest, local forecast has a good chance for rain here on Sunday and Sunday night, then cooler weather invades for about 36 hours..then we're back to the warm, springlike temperatures!

Interesting Weather Ahead

After we get through today with drizzle and cloudy conditions, the next several days hold lots of surprises!

Surprise #1--Temperatures on Monday could hit the mid and upper 60's.
Surprise #2--Storms by Tuesday and Tuesday night could be strong to severe
Surprise #3--Next weekend could usher in COLD AIR.
Surprise #4--First of following week could bring us the 's' word!

Obviously, #4 is a ways out and we'll have to watch it.

You can see our latest, local forecast here!

California continues to get bombed with bad weather. The forecast for our Tennessee Titans versus the San Diego Chargers is for temperatures to be in the mid 50's and a 100% chance of rain...link here.

Speaking of rain, we had just .05 this morning in the CoCoRaHS official rain gauge.

Sunday, December 9, 2007

Early Sunday Morning

When I got up a few minutes ago to check the rainfall in the CoCoRaHS gauge, I noticed it was very warm.

61.6° with 88% humidity...like a late summer morning, not a late fall morning! Temperatures have held steady overnight with very little additional rain. We have had .10 since 7 a.m. yesterday.

My Tennessee Titans take on the San Diego Chargers today in Nashville at LP Field. The Chargers present a big problem for our Titans with LT and the gang. Go TITANS!

Our forecast calls for rain chances pretty much everyday through the 5-day.

Middle TN FUN Weather Fact of The Day
On December 9, 1917...It's a cold day in Middle Tennessee.
Clarksville sees the mercury plunge to -12 degrees, which sets a new record low for December. Other readings include Crossville Experiment Station, -11, McMinnville, -1, and Nashville, 0.

Best Chances For Rain In A While!

Rob Bironas of our Tennessee Titans kicked an NFL-record eight (8) field goals in the Titan's 38-36 win over the Houston Texans. Read more by clicking on this story from ESPN. Another great Titans site is TitansOnline.com. Lastly, I also run over to TitansRadio.com, too. Tons of great stuff on their site.

Our week ahead promises several great chances for rain as a system stalls out just to the west of us allowing moisture to stream in to Middle Tennessee throughout much of this week.

Some forecasters provide insights of 1-2" of rain from this system. That would be a very welcome relief from the record-breaking drought of this year.

Get our forecast (courtesy of the NWS) by clicking here!

The leaves..they are a changin' here in the Upper Cumberland. Enjoyed a nice drive over to Knoxville where my oldest daughter competed in the State Championships for Middle School Cross Country.

Sunday Update

Our Tennessee Titans square off with the world champion Indianapolis Colts today at 12 Noon Central Time. Kick-0ff temps should be quite nice (mid 70's).

Overnight lows across the Plateau region were mostly in the middle 40's.
Here is a list.
Crossville Airport 44
Pikeville 44
Spring City 44
Sparta 45
Cookeville 45
Albany, KY 45

Hard to believe we were near 100° a few weeks ago.

The 7-day forecast looks nice with temperature moderating again into the lower 80's for highs. No significant chances of rain in the forecast.

How 'bout them Titans!!!

In a very hot and humid Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, our Tennessee Titans played smash-mouth with the Jags and came out on top 13-10. Chris Brown had a HUGE day with 175 rushing yards on 19 carries!

Apparently, the Florida heat affected the Jags much more than the Titans. Hey, at least that is one benefit of our hot Tennessee summer! :)

WAY TO GO TITANS!

Rain On The Roof!

Nothing like the sound of a little rain hitting the roof! It's a sound we haven't heard here in a while! I'll be excited to check the CoCoRaHS Rain Gauge in the morning to see what we got as well as to see what others got in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee.

Our forecast looks nice...the HOT weather is over for this year.

Tennessee Tech played up in Charleston, Illinois tonight. It was the debut of head coach Watson Brown for our Golden Eagles. While we lost 45-24, I am very impressed with the new look of our team. It's going to an exciting year!

The Tennessee Titans wrapped up their exhibition season in the NFL tonight by beating the Green Bay Packers 30-14. The Titans look like a playoff caliber team.
