That is the biggest question I'm getting from my e-mail and people I've seen today.
The short answer is 'YES' and the next question is 'How Much'? The answer that that question is a little more tricky.
We see rain changing to snow sometime between midnight and 6 am here in Cookeville with all snow on Monday. Some accumulation by daybreak, however, I think it'll be very, very light. It wouldn't surprise me, at all, to wake up with no snow and only light flurries. At this point, the National Weather Service is calling for snow showers.

Personally, I'd love to see some accumulating snow here. Our 42nd annual Christmas Parade is Monday night and it'd be awesome to have snow flying for it!

Dreary Saturday
(view from the Cookeville Webcam )
SNOW CHANCES NEXT 24-36 HOURS?
This is how our entire Saturday has look across Cookeville. Dreary, cloudy conditions with no rain as of yet. Most of the heavy stuff has remained to our south. The latest, local radar shows just a few active cells. Don't expect Sunday's temperatures to warm much from the overnight low tonight. Chances of rain do increase to 60% for tonight and again on Sunday with rain changing to snow showers on Sunday night and Monday. Accumulations are 'iffy' at this point. Temperatures are expected to be cold on Monday with highs barely reaching into the 30's. *LATEST, LOCAL FORECAST
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
The National Weather Service has, however, issued a Special Weather Statement. Indications are the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau (I'd say from Monterey north and east) could see amounts up to 1 inch. Here in Cookeville, a dusting might not be out of the question for us. Further west toward Nashville, mainly flurries.
SORRY FOR THE LATE POST TODAY
Late last evening, one of the dental implants that was put in my mouth last Thursday was really giving me some problems. I could feel it pulsating at the speed of my heart rate. My wife called our dentist and he said 'Come on in to my office now'...apparently, my body was rejecting one of them. He decided to remove it. Nothing I've ever had done (including two broken arms) can measure up to that pain. I don't know what labor pain feels like...but if it was anything like what I felt last night, I'm glad I am a man! Really appreciate our dentist for seeing me at 9 o'clock at night. I slept fairly well last night and have taken things very easy today. It has been a tough last seven days. Keep telling myself "short-term pain for long-term gain"....

Rain Moving In
Rain is moving in from the south this evening. There has been one report of Severe Weather in southern Louisiana earlier as a tornado was spotted on doppler radar near Fort Polk. No reports (yet) of any damage.
Our Latest, Local Forecast shows precipitation chances all the way through the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend with rain giving way to snow late on Sunday and continuing through Monday. I'm not sold on any accumulation at this point.
In sports news, it appears the University of Tennessee is planning to hire Lane Kiffin who was the former coach of the Oakland Raiders along with a former offensive coordinator at USC during their 2005 & 2006 Nat'l Championship runs. Kiffin is just 33 years old.
Black Friday Weather
Black Friday is here and my bride and eldest daughter woke up at 3 a.m. to take advantage of sales at various retailers across our fine city!
They were greeted with cloudy, cool conditions. Highs are expected to reach the middle 50's this afternoon.
*Latest, Local Forecast*
The rest of the holiday weekend shows showers moving in overnight tonight and continuing through the rest of the weekend. There is a chance for these showers to turn to snow showers on Sunday night and Monday! Our 2008 Cookeville Christmas parade is Monday evening at 7 pm. Weather conditions will be cold with a chance of snow showers. Temperatures will be mostly around 30°. We'll update this forecast as we get a little closer.
How about those Titans pounding the Lions on Thanksgiving Day? We saw #10 on the field late in the game. With a Colt's loss this weekend, the Titans clinch their division.

Near 60° on Thanksgiving!
Like my father says during warm days in the winter..."If this is global warming, then I'm all for it"....I can hear him saying that right now as we'll reach nearly 60° on Thanksgiving Day here in Middle Tennessee.
I wonder if Al Gore will be on his big houseboat on Center Hill Lake celebrating Turkey Day. It'll certainly be a nice day to spend on the lake.
Oh, if you don't like warm weather, we may have a big surprise coming along about Sunday and Monday.....it begins with an 'S' and ends with n-o-w... :) Let's not get too excited just yet, however, computer models are looking very, very interesting!

Good Morning! What a gorgeous sunrise in Tennessee!
Most of us start this Thanksgiving-eve morning in the 20's across Middle Tennessee. Across our entire state, temperatures range from 20° this morning in the Tri-Cities (located in extreme east TN) to 42° in Memphis on the Mississippi River. Today will be nice and sunny with highs mainly in the lower 50's for the Cookeville area.
The map above shows quiet weather for us for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our warmest day will be Thursday where we expect temperatures to reach in to the upper 50's. Rain enters our picture for Sunday and we will, once again, cool down. Highs on Sunday only make it to the lower 40's. One quick note on the map above, notice Southern California has a low pressure system with an associated front coming on shore. That show extinguish any of the remaining wildfires. *Latest, Local Forecast*
Weather Site of The Day
Did you know that 24 people have been killed and more than 300 injured this year by lightning strikes in the U.S.? Struckbylightning.org is a site dedicated to educating the public about this weather danger. I'd like to thank Michael Utley (a strike victim himself) for putting this informative site in place. Take some time to visit.

Finally, in yesterday's post, I promised you all a look at where we stand in 2008 with precipitation. I haven't forgotten and will get that work posted today!

Dangerous Black Ice
As one looks out a window this morning, you almost have to do a 'double-take' to see if that was snow, ice, or frost on the ground. Upon further investigation, it was frost with a combination of frozen precipitation! I noticed black ice had formed on our neighborhood streets. It should melt as the sun rises and more traffic hits the street.

Nicest Day In A While
The sunshine returns to Middle Tennessee today as highs (here in the Cookeville area) return to the 50's. We haven't seen the 50's since Saturday of last week (eight days ago). Don't get used to it as rain followed by cooler temperatures, is on the way for Monday. Tuesday's and Wednesday's high will only be in the middle 40's.

Our Tennessee Titans (10-0) host the New York Jets (7-3) who are quarterbacked by the legendary Brett Favre. Weather conditions at game-time are expected to be sunny and temperatures will rise into the lower 50's during the game. Winds should not be a factor. Go Titans!

Very Cold Tonight
Tonight's lows will bottom out around 14 degrees by daybreak here in Cookeville...even colder in the outlying areas.
If you haven't already done this, disconnect any garden hoses that are still hooked up to the faucets. If you don't, it'll be a terrible and costly surprise the next time you use it.

We may see 50 degrees plus by Sunday. Rain chances move in for Sunday night into Monday and could (emphasize COULD) end up as snow flurries by Monday night.

From WGN and Northern Indiana
Check out this snow from the South Bend, Indiana airport from Friday morning. Thanks to Tom Skilling and his gang at WGN-Chicago and their weather blog.
According to Tom, this is the 2nd lake effect snow they've had and some parts have received up to 13.5". Another lake effect storm is expected at the first of next week.
A post from Bob Swanson at "The Weather Guys" from USATODAY.com about the cuts going on at The Weather Channel. Sad to hear that Dave Schwartz, Cheryl Lemke, and Eboni Deon are facing layoffs.

Cold Friday
It is a beautiful, sunny day outside, but don't let it fool you. Temperatures are currently hovering around 31 degrees at just after 12 noon. We had some early morning snow flurries. Didn't amount to much though.

Temperatures will begin to moderate as we head toward the Thanksgiving holiday. We will, however, have to get through tonight where lows are expected to settle into the mid and lower teens.

Another blast of arctic air will blow in this afternoon bringing cold north to northwesterly winds. While we'll 'warm up' to the mid 40's today...tonight will drop the mid 20's and Friday's high will be only in the mid 30's. Teens for lows on Friday night...and then a warming trend for the weekend!

Coldest Morning of Season
We wake up to very chilly temperatures this morning across Tennessee. At 6:00 am, lows range from 17° in the Tri-Cities (located in east Tennessee) and 19° (located in west Tennessee) up to 32° at Memphis Int'l Airport (definitely a concrete/blacktop created heat island).
*Latest, Local Forecast*
We'll see nearly 50° by this afternoon, but a reinforcing shot of cold air will bring us back down to the mid 40's for Thursday and near 40 for Friday.
Looking back at this year, I had to go back to March 9th since we've woke up to a morning this cold. We are definitely in a winter-type pattern. Normal temps this time of year are 58 and 37

Cold Tuesday Morning!
If you are a cold, winter weather fan..then the next 24 hours are for you!
Cold, Canadian air has invaded the Middle Tennessee area and we will struggle to reach 40° for a high today. Tonight's low will be 20° here in Cookeville and it wouldn't surprise me to see some of our rural areas down in the upper teens by daybreak on Wednesday. Any dry front comes through late Wednesday night dropping our temperatures down once again. No precipitation in the forecast until at least Monday.

Cold Sunday
Today's high was just 41°..did a quick check and the last time our high temperature was THAT low happened to be on March 24th of this year. That date was also my parent's 46th wedding anniversary!

Credibility Issues
Some in the global warming hysteria community lack credibility.

Thanks Davis...
Davis Nolan, meterologist at News 2 in Nashville, just posted on Nashville WX my report of flurries along the Cumberland Plateau...appreciate the 'shout-out' and the link back to my site Davis...
Snow Falling...
Observed snow falling around 5:30 pm as my eldest daughter and I traveled back from the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area toward home. We were located at the 308 mile marker on I-40 around 5:30 pm CST.
YEEE-HAWWWW!
YEEE-HAWWWW!
Snow Tonight???
The cold front has passed through our area as I post this. According to the experts, snow chances are likely in my area of eastern Middle Tennessee. They are less likely to the west of us. There is an outside chance of accumulating (20%) snow overnight. Perhaps a dusting in some of the higher elevations toward Monterey and Jamestown.

Rain Today & Tonight
Rain will move into the Middle Tennessee area later today and stick around overnight. Expectations are this rain will be heavier than the last system which dumped just under an inch on us. Temperatures will be warm today with highs in the middle 60's. Rain continues on Saturday with falling temperatures creating a possible snow chance on Saturday night. I don't believe there will be anything more than just flurries.

Warming Up, Then Cooling Down (Rain, Then Snow)
A wild forecast is ahead! (Not anything like in the picture above!)
How about a little dense fog overnight with lows in the 50's? Then, we'll see a chance for rain tomorrow and much warmer with highs in the mid 60's. We will follow that with a 100% chance for showers on Friday night with windy conditions. Saturday will see our highs drop from the mid 40's early down through the 30's which will cause the rain to change over to snow. Throw in a lot of wind and it'll seem very cold! A little something for everyone over the next 48 hours!
Looking out a little ahead, Sunday's high will only reach in to the lower 40's with breezy winds. Another chilly day.
Looking way out ahead in days 6-10, we see highs only in the 40's and lower 50's...
Way, way out ahead in days 11-15 (and this isn't very accurate at times), we see highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's. What a way to end November!

My 'since midnight' total has been .23 on the electronic gauge . I'll have an updated CoCoRaHS amount tomorrow morning around 6:30 a.m. We recorded .13 at our 7 a.m. reading this morning. I'll update other rainfall totals from around Tennessee tomorrow morning as well.
Winds have picked up in the last twelve hours as we recorded an 18 mph gust.

Rain Becoming Heavy Tonight...
Rain chances continue for today as we'll see highs in the middle 50's. The rain chances increase tonight and so will the intensity of the rainfall overnight. We see rain through the entire forecast period turning to SNOW on Saturday night. We are still a bit far away to be real comfortable with that prediction, but for now we'll go with it!

Fun Stuff-Nov 11, 2008
I love cool weather websites and interesting facts. I believe it is part of the nature of people, like me, who enjoy the weather. Tonight, I pass on some links of some sites that are very interesting and among my favorites.
From the Weather Blogosphere...
Alabama's 33/40 Weather Blog
James Spann and his crew does and excellent job posting several times a day about weather. Not only do they post the 'Weather Extreme Video' but they also post pictures and weather history along with numerous other tidbits. Just today (Nov. 11th), Bill Murray (not the one from Caddyshack) posted about the Blizzard on Armistice Day in 1940 ...It is certainly one of my 'go-to' weather sites.
WGN Weather Center Blog
Another site I enjoy is from Tom Skilling and his band of knowledgeable weather staff at WGN in Chicago. Their graphics are amongst the best. I also enjoy the 'Ask Tom Why' section, too.
Dr. Jeff Masters at Wunderground
This blog can be technical, yet understandable. Jeff Masters does an excellent job explaining, in great detail, how weather affects us. Jeff was the co-founder of The Weather Underground (not those nut-jobs that went around blowing up things and killing Americans). Bill Ayers DOES NOT belong to this Weather Underground bunch. Jeff is an incredibly talented weather man with a Phd to back it up!
Weather Matrix
Finally, I bring you a weather blog by Jesse Ferrell. His is called Weather Matrix. Jesse, like Jeff, is super talented and writes a very interesting weather blog. He is affiliated with AccuWeather.com and has elevated their product offering tremendously with his expertise. You'll learn a lot from Jesse.
Those are my three interesting sites tonight. Take time to visit each of them. They are worth your time!

Monday promises some sunshine and highs in the mid 50's but the rest of the week is unsettled with good rain chances each day.

More Sunshine Today!
I love autumn weather here in Tennessee. Today and tomorrow will be excellent examples of what I do enjoy about our fall season. Temperatures will be in the mid 70's under sunny skies!
Change seems to be the word of this fall season (at least politically) and the end of this week will provide some BIG CHANGE. After a front moves through on Friday bringing rain late Thursday night through early Saturday, someone will think the 'fridge door was left open. Highs this weekend will only be in the middle 50's. *OUCH*

Titans WIN!!
The Tennessee Titans ran their record to 8-0 this afternoon in Nashville as they defeated the Green Bay Packers 19-16 in overtime. Rob Bironas, Titan's placekicker, made a 41 yard field goal to win the game. Earlier, with 4 seconds in regulation, he his attempt struck the upright. Bironas made field goals of 31, 25, 22, and 41 yards! WAY TO GO ROB...redemption is fantastic.
The new version of 'Thunder and Lightning' with Lendale White and Chris Johnson worked well today as the tandem had 77 and 89 yards rushing respectively. Johnson also led the team in receptions today with six catches for 72 yards. The rookie, a first round pick from East Carolina, is playing extremely well. Some fans questioned the Titans organization for picking him, however, I am sure those fans have eaten their words!
Kerry Collins was a respectable 18 for 37 for 180 yards and NO interceptions. The Titans took care of the ball. Collins was sacked twice by the strong Packer defense.
Titan wide receiver Brandon Jones had several timely receptions for first downs.
Another fantastic day for our Tennessee Titans. Clearly, they ARE the NFL's best team.

Blog Hits, Sunshine & October Summary!
WEBSITE UPDATE
You guys continue to amaze me with your dedication to this blog. For the month of October, visits to my website were up 137% versus last year and total page views were up 151%. October is typically one of the slower (and boring weather wise) months of the year due to the lack of rain & other weather 'events'. Numbers and measurements are really important to us in the weather business. Thank you for making my numbers look great!
TODAY'S WEATHER
Looking outdoors today, it was another cold morning once again. We are, however, headed up to near 70° for our high today under sunny skies!

SPEAKING OF NUMBERS
Take a look at this sign....can you believe that no one has ever drowned at Center Hill Lake without a life jacket on BUT nearly 100 people have lost their lives due to swimming in this deep lake and not wearing one. That is a sobering statistic. You can check out yesterday's post and pictures of this beautiful body of water.

Temperatures were slightly below average. Our high temperature average 70 degrees while the normal high for October is 71....our lows averaged 42.5 for the month while the normal low is 44....
